Biography

Winner of the 64th Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, Arsenii Moon also won the prestigious Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Award, awarded only in case of unanimous verdict of the jury, a recognition that had not been granted for almost three decades. Moreover, he won the Audience Award, which the Busoni Competition opens online to listeners from all around the world.

Arsenii Moon was born in St Petersburg in 1999. At the age of six he began to study the piano with Elena Zyabreva and from 2010 to 2017 he studied with Alexander Sandler, initially at the Secondary Special Music School of the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory and subsequently at the conservatory itself. In 2024 he finished his degree as a student of Sergei Babayan at the Juilliard School in New York.

In 2009 he made his concert debut with the St Petersburg Philharmonia, and in 2011 he gave his first recital at the Mozarthaus Vienna. Since then he has performed in major concert halls around the globe. He has collaborated with leading conductors such as Stanislav Kochanovsky, Joseph Swensen, Mei-Ann Chen, Dmitri Matvienko, Mark Russell Smith, Ian Hobson, Valery Gergiev, among others.

In the earlier stages of his career Arsenii has won prizes in several major competitions, such as first prize at the Horowitz Competition in Ukraine, Second prize at the Cliburn Junior Competition in the USA, First prize at the Artur Rubinstein in Memoriam competition in Poland, First prize in the St. Priest competition in France.
Concert tours for the 2024/25 season include more than 100 performances, both recital and with orchestras, in major venues and festivals in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, South Korea and Japan, including halls such as Konzerthaus Vienna, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Seoul Arts Center, Tonhalle Zurich, Gewandhaus Leipzig, as well as recording productions with Deutsche Grammophon and the ORF Vienna Radio Orchestra.

On its 125th anniversary, the legendary record label Deutsche Grammophon launched its new service STAGE+. Arsenii is featured in the “Rising Stars” section, that includes an audiovisual concert portrait of the Busoni Competition’s final and digital audio releases on STAGE+.
The label included his performance of Debussy's Feux d'artifice in its collection “100 Great Musical Moments” (2024), which includes performances by renowned international artists (such as Daniel Barenboim, Hélène Grimaud, Kian Soltani and Andreas Ottensamer) and new concert talents.
