Biography

Winner of the 73rd Edition of AsLiCo Competition 2024 for the role of Don Alfonso in “Così fan tutte”, baritone Matteo Torcaso studied and graduated at the Conservatory “F. Torrefranca” in Vibo Valentia, under the direction of M° Francesco De Leo, M° Maura Maurizio and M° Cristina Baggio,. He attended Masterclasses with M° Claudio Desderi at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, with M° Renato Bruson at His Academy in Busseto, together with other masterclasses with Maestri Sonia Ganassi, Marco Camastra, William Matteuzzi, Ernesto Palacio, Enza Ferrari, Vincenzo De Vivo.
During his training, he studied at the Accademia d’Arte Lirica di Osimo, where he received the Scholarship in memory of Attilio Foglia and Renzo Palmieri in 2020 and the full scholarship in memory of Alessandro Candelari in 2021.

Winner of the First Prize Trofeo Città dei Greci in 2012, he was awarded First Prize in the Competition Città di Filadelfia in 2014; in 2019 he won the Concorso Città di Pienza for the role of Dulcamara in “L'elisir d'amore”. He won the same role in the Europa InCanto and OperaOpera auditions. In 2022 he was nominated winner of the role of Dandini in “La Cenerentola” in the audition for Europa InCanto in 2022.

In 2019 he sang Tobia in “La cambiale di matrimonio” at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto, Belcore in “L’elisir d’amore” at the State Opera Varna (Bulgaria), Schaunard in “La bohème” at Teatro Castagnoli in Scansano. In 2020 he sang Marcello in “La bohème” for the project “Magia dell’opera” in film version with the Tito Gobbi Association.
In 2021 he performed Brahms' “Liebesliederwalzer” in Osimo with Michele Campanella and Monica Leone. He sang Dulcamara in “L’elisir d’amore” at the Anfiteatro in Ostia Antica, Auditorium della Conciliazione (Rome), Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Alfonso Rendano (Cosenza). He sang Marco in “Gianni Schicchi” at Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Germano in “La scala di seta” at Teatro La Nuova Fenice in Osimo, Bruschino padre in “Il signor Bruschino” at Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena for the Accademia Chigiana, Parmenione in “L'occasione fa il ladro” and Impresario in the first performance of  “Valigie d’Occasione di Schittino” at Teatro Coccia in Novara. He was Deputato fiammingo in “Don Carlo” and The Keeper in “The Rake's Progress” both conducted by M° Daniele Gatti, and Mustafà in “L'italiana in Algeri” at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, “Falstaff” in the homonymous opera at the ChigianaOperaLab with the students of M° Daniele Gatti's conducting course at the Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena.
In season 2023/24 he sang Don Alfonso in “Così fan tutte” at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza and Schaunard in “La bohème” at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino for the opening of the season under the baton of M° Giacomo Sagripanti.
In 2024 he will sing Il sagrestano in “Tosca” conducted by M° Daniele Gatti at the 86th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival, Dulcamara in "L'elisir d'amore" at the Teatro Goldoni in Firenze and "Don Pasquale", title role, at the Teatro Rinnovati di Siena. In September, he will participate in the recording of Maestro Michele dall'Ongaro's contemporary opera “Robin Hood” at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. In October and December 2024 he will sing Don Alfonso in “Così fan tutte” for Opera Lombardia.
