Biography

Finalist in the 62nd Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona and winner of the 75th edition of the AsLiCo International Competition in 2024 for the role of Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Matteo Torcaso also won third prize at the 2024 Portofino International Opera Competition. He graduated at the “F. Torrefranca” Conservatory in 2018. He has participated in masterclasses with Sonia Ganassi, Marco Camastra, Maestro William Matteuzzi, and Maestro Ernesto Palacio. He furthered his studies with Maestro Claudio Desderi at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and Maestro Renato Bruson at the Accademia di Busseto. He also completed the two-year advanced course at the Accademia d’Arte Lirica in Osimo and, in June 2024, concluded a two-year program at the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

2025/26 Season: Barone di Trombonok in Il viaggio a Reims at Rossini Opera Festival, Moralès in Carmen at Teatro Grande di Brescia, Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Comunale di Modena, Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, and Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna; cover for Cardenio in Il furioso all’isola di San Domingo at Donizetti Opera; Sagrestano in Tosca at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Doctor Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia at The Grand Opera House in Belfast, Marullo in Rigoletto at Teatro Lirico in Cagliari.
2024/25 Season: Frate Tuck in Robin Hood by Michele Dall’Ongaro at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari; Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte for Opera Lombardia; Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore at Teatro Sociale in Rovigo; tour with Teatro Petruzzelli to the Royal Opera House Muscat with Robin Hood; Moralès in Carmen at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
2023/24 Season: Sagrestano in Tosca, conducted by Maestro Daniele Gatti at the 86th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival; Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore at Teatro Goldoni in Florence; title role in Don Pasquale at Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena.
In the previous season, he sang Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, and Schaunard in La bohème at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, conducted by Maestro Giacomo Sagripanti, for the season opening.
In 2019, he won the Città di Pienza Competition for the role of Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, which he later performed for Europa InCanto and OperaOpera. In 2022, he was selected again by Europa InCanto for the role of Dandini in La Cenerentola. In 2019, he also performed Tobia Mill in La cambiale di matrimonio at Teatro Verdi in Busseto, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore at the Varna Opera House, and Schaunard in La bohème at Teatro Castagnoli in Scansano.
In 2020, he sang Marcello in La bohème in a film production created by the Tito Gobbi Association for “Magia dell’opera.”
In 2021, he participated in Liebesliederwalzer by Brahms in Osimo with Michele Campanella and Monica Leone. He performed Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore at the Auditorium della Conciliazione in Rome and Teatro San Carlo in Naples; Marco in Gianni Schicchi at Teatro delle Muse in Ancona; Germano in La scala di seta at Teatro La nuova Fenice in Osimo; Bruschino padre in Il signor Bruschino at Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena for the Accademia Chigiana; Parmenione in L’occasione fa il ladro, and the Impresario in the premiere of Valigie d’occasione by Schittino at Teatro Coccia in Novara.
He has also performed the Flemish Deputy in Don Carlo and The Keeper in The Rake’s Progress, both conducted by Maestro Daniele Gatti, as well as Mustafà in L’italiana in Algeri at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Falstaff in Falstaff during the ChigianaOperaLab with students of Maestro Daniele Gatti’s conducting course at Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena.
